Meet Luke Seymour...

We’re thrilled to be talking to Luke Seymour from Paul Carnahan's novel 'How Soon is Now?'  It is a pleasure to have him with us today!

Thank you for joining us, Luke.  How old are you and what do you do for a living?

Thanks for taking the time to talk to me! I’m 55 years old and, to be honest, I’m between jobs at the moment. I’ve been a journalist all my working life, but I’m taking a career break at the moment, for personal reasons. Perhaps I’ll get back to it, once I’ve sorted out a few things.

Can you tell us about one of your most distinguishable features?

Well, I can travel in time. Does that count? With the right stimulus - sounds and smells work particularly well - I can go back and inhabit my own body at any previous point in my life. I had no idea about any of this until recently. It’s exciting. And scary.

What would I love the most about you?

I'm not sure I'm that easy to love. Let me think ... I always try to do the right thing. Sometimes it takes me a while to work out what the right thing is, but I get there in the end. Will that do?

What makes you laugh out loud?

My girlfriend, Alison.

Are you a loner or do you prefer to be surrounded by friends?

I can be solitary by nature, but I’m lucky to have a few close friends who help keep me on the straight and narrow. And I’ve recently met some very interesting new friends. They’re called the Nostalgia Club, and they have a very flexible attitude to time. They’re a little odd, some of them, but they seem to think I can help them with something...

What is in your refrigerator right now?

Some dried-up pasta and half a red pepper.

What is your greatest fear?

Hospitals.

If you could change one physical thing about yourself, what would that be?

I’d like to be as slim as I was when I was in college, and possibly redistribute some hair.

Who is your best friend?

Apart from Alison, that would be my old college pal Malcolm. We’ve been through a lot. Well, I’ve been through a lot. He’s been there with me, the whole way.

Do you have children?

What is your favorite weather?

Scottish weather.

Do you like to cook? If so, what is your favorite thing to cook?

My ex-wife left some very useful recipe books. The ones with colour pictures are the best.

If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?

Go back to the day before yesterday.

'How Soon Is Now?' is available now in hardback and paperback from Amazon, and in digital format for Kindle, Kobo, Nook and Apple Books.
